Ms. Jacobs: Artist/ Photographer/ Teacher
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Jacobs studied the arts at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina. Then returned to Atlanta, and worked at Professional Photo Resources. Later she obtained her Master’s in Photography degree at SCAD in Savannah, Georgia in 2002. Ms. Jacobs and some fellow artists moved to New Orleans for a bit, but escaped before Katrina. Returning to Atlanta, Ms. Jacobs worked at David Johnson Studio, where she learned to cast, mold and rework bonded- bronze sculptures. She worked with the Art Institute of Atlanta for 14 years (2004- 2018) teaching Photography full time, opening the photography program at the AiA Decatur campus, and was the Director of the Janet Day Gallery for 3 years (2015-18) . In 2006, she taught a study abroad summer quarter in Berlin, Germany, which is now her favorite place to visit. After an Adobe Educator’s Summit at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops she published a book and has written a class on Digital Asset Management. In 2019, Ms. Jacobs taught at Benjamin E Mays High School for Atlanta Public Schools. She has judged the Decatur Arts Festival, Dogwood Arts Festival, as well the Georgia High School Arts Competition. She has shown her personal work at Fay Gold Galley. When she isn’t working, she is enjoying art, working in the garden, traveling or riding her horse Xiola Blue. In the anticipation of working at DSA, in July 2019 Ms. Jacobs resigned from the Executive Board of Atlanta Celebrates Photography, in which she held the position of Chair of the Programing Committee. She is currently on the Board of Illuminate Atlanta.
Ms. Jacobs has participated in exhibitions with
over 60 gallery shows, from New York to Savannah, New Orleans, Asheville, to
overseas in Moscow, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam and Jinan, China.
